Kenneth Copeland Ministry: Proclaiming Jesus Is Lord!

by Guest Author

Kenneth Copeland Ministry (KCM) is perhaps one of the biggest ministries today, with work spanning from the United States, Australia, Africa, Europe, Canada, and Asia Pacific. Established in 1967, it continues to proclaim the message "Jesus Is Lord" through various ministries all over the world, focusing on faith, love, healing, prosperity, and restoration.

Founder Kenneth Copeland did not originally start as a minister. In fact, he was a budding recording artist. His record Pledge of Love spent several weeks on the charts and peaked at Billboard #12. He also appeared in several music magazines.

However, when wife Gloria found the Bible and read it, she prayed for God to take control of their lives. As a result of this, the couple then moved to Oklahoma as Kenneth decided to leave his singing career and pursued studies at the Oral Roberts University. As a flight crew assisting Oral Roberts in tent meetings and crusades, he got inspired to start his own ministry.

Various Ministries. Focused on faith, the ministry reaches out to spread God's word founded on love, healing, prosperity, and restoration. Under various ministry arms, it has set out to spread the gospel across the world. Its prayer ministry prays for over 11,000 people every week. They even make calls to about 2,000 partners to respond to prayer requests. They even have a prayer line available 24 hours a day. The prison ministry restores lives by giving Bible studies and praying for about 52,000 prisoners in Texas and Louisiana. During disasters, the ministry, through its KCM Relief Fund donates food, clothing, and financial assistance to calamity victims. Other ministries include Military Ministry, which provides a support group to troops and their families through prayer and counseling, Outreach Ministries in orphanages and rehabilitation centers all over the world, and its flagship television ministry "Believers of Voice of Victory".

However, the ministry was rocked with controversies from its teachings to its use of donated funds. A few years ago, their "World Faith Movement" received criticism for their claims on faith healing, and for teaching that believers could get a hundredfold return for their donations, implying they are using Biblical verses to convince people to fund ministries.

Accusations also range from leaving their Affordable Homes Limited in thousands of dollars in debt, to using the $20-million Cessna Citation jet for personal trips with family and friends. There were claims that they gave Rolls Royces to their pastors. This prompted US Senator Chuck Grassley to demand the ministry to present financial information in 2007. KCM responded by releasing financial report from Kenneth Copeland Ministry accomplished by an independent firm. They also launched the KCM website, where they explained and answered the allegations hurled at them, particularly on the issue of financial transparency. Also, for the issue on Affordable Homes Limited, as they were limited partners, they were not obliged to answer the allegations or pay for the debt. They presented flight plans to answer claims of using the ministry's jet for trips of families and friends. They continue to use the Kenneth Copeland Airport in Texas for its mission trips.

KCM still expands in the United States and around the world. Together with daughter Kelly Copeland Swisher and son John Copeland, CEO of KCM, The Eagle Mountain International Church and worldwide partners, the ministry strives to pursue the heritage of proclaiming Jesus is Lord.
