Numerous diet programs recommend low calorie meals for muscle building, but if you ask me that's just inaccurate and needless. Here are 6 facts why your low calorie diet could be working against you and your dream to get six pack abs:

1. Low Calorie Intake May Cause Muscle Loss and a Dwindling in Your Metabolic Rate.

Initially, you'll probably notice that you're shaking off extra fat at a truly fast rate. But, after a number of weeks, you will soon learn that you're losing muscle too. Last time I checked, you have to shape your muscles for you to get six pack abs, not lose them.

Aside from lean muscle loss, studies have shown that you also get a decrease in your metabolic rate when you purely stick to low-cal diets. When you're losing lean muscles, your metabolic rate decreases as well, making it even more difficult for you to lose fat.

2. Low Calorie-Low-Cal Food Will Not Tone Your Physique.

While it slows down your metabolic rate, your low-cal intake will also do nothing to tone your muscles. You might lose a few pounds of fat, that's a fact, but it would prove to be really difficult to get six pack abs at the rate you're going. Think of yourself getting rid of fat without sculpting any muscle along the way. Since you're losing muscle mass, there's just no muscle left to define. Is that really your idea of being fit?

3. Your Cravings Will After All Catch Up to You.

This part is apparently the most challenging. Holding back yourself from sufficient calories will lead you to uncontrollable hunger. When you're at your weakest point, you'll start looking for deliciously unhealthy food, and you destroy whatever you've worked hard for so far. History (and your own personal experiences, no doubt) will show that these tempting fatty, sweet treats could easily win the battle. The worst part is that no matter how hard you've worked to lose all that extra fat, they're going to come back to haunt you some more.

4. You End Up Storing Fat in the Long Run Rather than Losing Them.

Bottom line is that your body knows what it needs. It isn't well-versed with fad diets; it only knows how it should function as a whole. The primary function of your body is its instinct to SURVIVE. When your calorie levels go down at an disturbing rate, your body instinctively hangs on to whatever fat is left, causing your fat burning enzymes to slow down and making you immune to burning any more fat.

5. Low Calorie Meals Slows Down Your Energy Level.

Taking in lesser calories than your body needs also means you're not getting enough nutrition, and that usually cause the decrease of energy levels. That would explain why you feel more tired than usual. Think about how that will affect your training performance - nothing short off pointless, I bet.

If you don't have sufficient energy, you won't be able to perform any of your daily drills perfectly. That means you cannot carry on high-energy exercises. Do you really think that you can get six pack abs with such little energy? This shows that you won't be able to shape muscle with just dieting alone.

6. Low Calorie Foods Will Take a Toll on the Way You Look.

Are you still convinced that a low calorie food can be maintained for a long time? Even if you could, that would just be downright irresponsible. Your body can only take so much negligence. Naturally, your body is going to break down and you could find yourself right back where you began or worse. You can't surely hope to get six pack abs that way, can you?

It's clear that a low calorie food is certainly not the most efficient method to get six pack abs. It's not good for your overall health, it doesn't do anything for muscle development, and it keeps your energy at a minimum. To get six pack abs, you have to follow a healthy, well-balanced diet. Combine it with frequent workout program and nothing will stop you.
